Nope Diary #13
nope to getting up when the alarm goes off
Dear Diary,
What follows is an hour-by-hour accounting of a day in the life.
A day in my life.
If that wasn’t clear.
Enjoy.
5-6 am: My alarm goes off, but I don’t get up. I never do. Sometimes I think/hope I’ll get up before everyone else and write or do yoga, but in this season of my life, I choose sleep instead.
6-7 am: Now I do get up. Shower, makeup, get dressed, make breakfast.
7-8 am: Drive to work and listen to an audiobook (“We’ll Always Have Summer” by Jenny Han).
8-9 am: Get to work and keep listening to my book because I’m so close to the end. Look up images of garbage trucks (this will make sense in a minute).
9-10 am: On the reference desk for an hour. I see one of my favorites, we’ll call her J, and she tells me about her recent trip and then gives me a sticker.
10-11 am: Take a cart of book discards downstairs to our Technical Services Department. J asks where I am going and if I’ll be back. :) I do, in fact, come back, but don’t see her. Back at my desk, I make six felt garbage trucks for a garbage truck themed storytime I’m doing next week. They turned out pretty cute.
11 am - 1 pm: Fill four BookBoxes (the outreach service we offer to local schools) and take a quick break to eat lunch (chicken zucchini meatballs, lemon rice, and kale salad with pomegranate seeds). While I was pulling books, another favorite from storytime who recently started going to preschool saw me and said to her mom, “it’s the librarian!” and then came over to tell me about school and show me her very loved looking stuffed bear.
1-2 pm: Finish up a few other tasks before leaving for the day.
2 - 3 pm: Pick up A and his friend. Change into exercise clothes and eat a snack before starting yoga. I turned 43 this year, and I feel silly to admit this, but my hips and lower back feel so old, ha. This week, I’ve done yoga every day to help loosen and stretch them out.
3-4 pm: Finish yoga and take the boys to pick up J (my J, not library J) from basketball practice, which got out early today. Listened to this gem of a conversation about voting on the way there:
E (A’s friend): I just can’t wait until I can vote.
A: Yeah! I’m going to vote so hard for a woman president.
Gah! The absolute best.
4-5 pm: Eat another small snack (homemade bread toasted with sun butter and apricot jam) and go for a run.
5-6 pm: Finish run and come home to Forrest skateboarding on the ramp he made in the garage. We hang out in the kitchen and talk about the day while he makes dinner (salmon & broccoli, which is one of the few healthy dinners my kids actually like). I’m really proud of this week’s exercise - yoga every day, and finished all my runs.
6-9 pm: Dinner and then watched a few episodes of The Good Place with the fam.
9 pm: Read until my eyes get too heavy and then sleep. Currently reading Stellarlune by Shannon Messenger.
🖤,
Elizabeth
